Wearable tech is no doubt beginning to heavily infiltrate the eyewear world – and we’re not just talking VR goggles. Italian eyewear company Safilo is currently testing sunglasses that actually measure your focus level, then help you to improve it. Athletes are the main participants in the tests, because focus is key to their top performance. The glasses are called simply, the “Focus.”
Though they may not appear to, the Focus measures brainwave activity of its wearer, via sensing materials placed inside the nose pad and arms of the frames. This information is sent to an app, where the user can see what’s going on in real time, and make performance adjustments as needed. Think of it as a mini-EEG machine, but for your brain instead of your heart – and on your face instead of your torso.
The Focus collects data outside of workout times as well, which helps athletes to determine the prime conditions for maximum performance. This could translate well to students and those in the corporate world as well. After all, knowing what makes you tick can only help in the long run. The Focus is expected to be available to the public later this year.
